What were the last two books you read(real books nog ladies mags)and would you reccomend them to others?

Mine were;
Malika Oufkir. The prisoner. the true story of a woman who went from being a Moroccan royal child’s playmate to a prisoner for 20 years, due to a failed coup by her father.
Interesting but it didn’t flow because of the constant footnotes it interrupted the flow.

Dawn French. Dear Fatty her autobiography written in diary form as a series of letters it worked quite well and there are funny and sad bits in there but she comes across as a really nice person.

How it works!
A song title is posted and the next person has to post a song title with ONE word from the previous song.

eg. Your song-----Song sung blue

life in the 1500’s

love this.....now you know where these sayings came from

How it came about.

Life in the 1500’s You’re gonna love this.
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn’t just how you like it, think about how things used to be.
Here are some facts about the 1500’s
Most people got married in June beause they took their yearly bath in May, and still smelled pretty goodby June.
However, they were starting to smell, so the brides carried a bouquet of flowersto hide the body odor, hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub of hot water. The man of the house had the priviledge of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children.
Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty that you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater.
Houses had thatched rooves, thick straw piled high with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the dogs and cats and other small animals(mice and bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.
Hence the saying It’s raining cats and dogs.

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house either. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where the bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection and that’s how the canopy came into existance.

Enjoying your education?

Sometimes pork was obtained, which made the family feel quite special. When visitors would come over, they would hang up there bacon to show that the man of the house could"bring home the bacon”. They would cut off little pieces to share and everyone would sit around “chewing the fat”

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got themiddle and the guests the top or “the upper crust”.

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whiskey. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for several days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would eat and drink while waiting to see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.

England is old and small and the local folk started running out of places to bury people, so they would dig up the coffins and take the bones to a bone-house and reuse the grave. When reopening these about one in twnty five had scratch marks on the inside. They realised they were burying people alive, so they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin, up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Then someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell. Therefore someone could be “saved by the bell” or was a “dead ringer”. Whoever said history was boring?

A warning for women

WARNING FOR ALL WOMEN !

This is a heads up to those friends who haven’t experienced it yet, and an explanation to those friends and family who have. Most of you have read the scare-mail about the person whose kidneys were stolen while he was passed out. Well, read on. While the kidney story was an urban legend, this one is not. It’s happening every day.

My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. It was just that quick. I went to sleep in my body and woke up with someone else’s thighs. The new ones had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Who would have done such a cruel thing to legs that had been mine for years? Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine? I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans and Sheer Energy pantyhose.

Then, just when my guard was down, the thieves struck again. My butt was next. I know it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear end (although badly attached at least three inches lower than my original) to the thighs they stuck me with earlier. Now, my rear end complimented my legs, lump for lump. Frantic, I prayed that long skirts would stay in fashion.

It was two years ago when I realized my arms had been switched. One morning I was fixing my hair and I watched horrified but fascinated as the flesh of my upper arms swung to and fro with the motion of the hairbrush. This was really getting scary. My body was being replaced one section at a time. How clever and fiendish.

Age? Age had nothing to do with it. Age is supposed to creep up, unnoticed, something like maturity. NO, I was being attacked repeatedly and without warning. In despair I gave up my T-shirts. What could they do to me next?

My poor neck disappeared more quickly than the Thanksgiving turkey it now resembled. That’s why I decided to tell my story. I can’t take on the medical profession by myself.

Women of the world, wake up and smell the coffee. That really isn’t plastic that those surgeons are using. You KNOW where they are getting those replacement part, don’t you? The next time you suspect someone has had a face “lifted”, look again. Was it lifted from you? I think I finally found my thighs...and I hope Cindy Crawford paid a really good price for them!

This is not a hoax. This is happening to women in every town every night. WARN YOUR FRIENDS.

P.S. I must say that last year I thought someone had stolen my breasts. I was lying in bed and they were gone! As I jumped out of bed I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept. Now I keep them hidden in my waistband.

This month

A few day’s early I know but that gives you time to get your thinking caps on.

Every month is special for one reason or another I thought it might be fun to say why this month is special to any/all of us.

As women,
July 14th (1858) is the birthday of Emeline Pankhurst
2 July 1928 saw the introduction of equal voting rights for women in England.
July is also the birth month of Amelia Earhart (1897-1937)who in 1932 was the first woman and only the second person ever to fly solo across the Atlantic ocean..

Personally its a month of family birthdays, my half brother on the 5th, my OH on the 11th, my father(R.I.P) on the 13th, and my mum on the 29th.

Its also national picnic month so get those picnic baskets cleaned out and ready to go

Why is July special to you?

Thought for the day

Just for fun but a nice insppriational thought or quote each day to keep us thinking…

Daily Decisions
What I am experiencing at this moment is the result of choices and decisions made in the past; what I will experience in the future depends on choices and decisions I make now. Happiness is a daily decision.

Oh by the way its not me thinking these up! I pinched them from somewhere else!!
