Whats everyones opinion concerning these robbing MPs these days??>

I think they have spoilt it for the lot of them, they were extreamly privilaged and took advantage, i think the expences system should now be scrapped all together and they work like any other member of the public who has to move for their job, they buy their own homes, furniture & if they dont like it they should take another job!.

At the very most, only their travel should be paid for.

And for those who say they’ll pay it back and leave in a few months (once they have had their pay off), i think they should be out the door and fined!, the suggestion of being paid off when they leave is obscene!.

I think it’s a bloody disgrace cat. I’d like to be able to claim expenses for the petrol I use every day to take my kids to school. I’d like to be able to claim expenses for my food shopping at tescos. My OH would like to be able to claim for the petrol he uses to get to work every day. The list is endeless.

These MP’s earn VAST salaries. They can more than afford to pay for whatever it is they need out of their own pockets. Now they actually expect us to vote for them in the European Elections? How can we trust any of them? They make me sick the lot of em.  mad  mad

I think the Queen should have disolved parliament and called for a general election.

I wish the queen bloody would!, im sick of this lot, we should have had a general election a long time ago, because nobody ever voted Gordon Brown in thats for sure. Labour have no chance of getting in again.

Whos to say that none of the other parties have been doing this mind?, if it would do any good i wouldnt vote for any of them, but i certainly know who i wont be voting for.

As you say they do earn Vast ridiculous amounts of money, they can easily pay all the expences and have a VERY nice life style on the left overs!.

Why should they be doing this with our money when the rest of us scrimp and save and just ‘get by’ (if that for some)

Tell you what makes me laugh cat, is all these MP’s that have been involved in this expenses scandal, resigning and citing “personal family reasons”. Yeah right, course it is. LOL

I bet all the major parties took a right hammering at the polls yesterday. Serves em right too. How can we trust any of them after this bloody fiasco?

well thats it, i think most of them from all parties must be up to the same trick to be honest.
the only way to restore any faith in the situation i think is to scrap their expenses all together, as you say-lets face it they earn more than enough to live on as it is. I think they have ruined some fantastic perks for everyone so they should now be taken off them.

will never happen though..

I think it’s terrible and indefensible BUT they are NOT paid particularly high salaries. A non-cabinet MP is paid £64766 which might sound a lot but actually isn’t that much when you think what people in the private sector earn. Let’s also not forget that people in the private sector also claim for exactly the same things on their expense accounts and no-one minds. I’m not saying this excuses the MPs’ behaviour, because it’s public money they’re spending, but I think it’s a point worth making.

what puzzles me is how it was allowed to happen. Someone must have signed off on these expense bills and seen the receipts and seen what was being claimed for - surely that office has to take some of the blame?

Thats a really good point Mookie. Personally, I think no one should be able to claim unless they earn ‘under’ a certain amount. There are many families that work hard and can’t work to their largest extend as a result of money holding them back. Maybe if they were able to claim it would be better.

But the other thing is, is instead of using the money we give to the tax man for claims, they should use it to improve education, sport and creative activities. They could build the country and develop it where it is needed. Not for helping the people who already have lots of money, who could maybe change a few luxuries in their live to make up for those claims.

I do think that it is unfair for anyone to claim from the money that the working class pay as tax. I think it should be used to help the economy/government and quality of life grow.

I think that the MP’s who have contributed to the expenses scandal are a disgrace to Britain, while they argue a true point that there salaries are low in comparison I think any hardworking person who is facing losing their job and or home in these time could probably see it that way when public money they have contributed to is spent frivolously to decorate the garden of a second home, how can something like this even be classed as essential.

To the average person the amount MP’s are earning is significant, perhaps 3 or 4 years of salaries to some and to see those responsible for the country to behave with this attitude is a giant kick in the teeth.

I think the whole scandal shouts the statement ‘we neither care, empathies or can relate to dire financial situations the general public of Britain’, I think they need to show they are willing to make sacrifices too.

The point made by mookie about the office used to claim money should be held accountable too is very true.

Thats a very good point there. I think they are definitely giving out that view to people. That they don’t care, emphathies etc. And also that one salary for them, is the equavalent of an average persons salary over 3 years! I was thinking that before, and I agree that its disgraceful, it almost seems like they have completely forgotten about the people who have to go through the more difficult side of life.

thing that gets my goat too , is that the MPs who say they’ll step down and leave WON’T leave until they get their pay off!!!!.

why an earth should they recieve a pay off when they have been fiddling the system?

We need to know that our politicians not only care but understand us, probably why Labour received such a battering in the recent polls.

Makes me sick to think the BNP came out with something productive out of this too so they can now spread vile views in the European parliament.
