Do you worry about what’s in the food you eat? Do you worry about food colourings and E numbers? Do you worry about added sugar and preservatives?
Do you think that there are far too many “added extras” in our food? Have you ever considered switching to organic produce because of this?

Some children especially are allergic to the food colourings and preservatives that are put in some food and drinks. Some children can also become “hyperactive” as a result of this.

One very well known maker of an orange flavoured drink, has announced that it has taken out all added preservatives, sugar and artificial colourings from this product, so that parents can be sure their children are drinking a healthy natural drink.

I have never tried organic produce, mainly I think because of the cost. It can be very expensive. However with so many products these days containing all these added extras, I might just end up trying it one of these days.

Goodness, im not sure id want to know whats in the food we eat, because im sure id feel ill if i knew.

To be honest, since coming back from holiday my husband and i have cut out most of the pre packaged processed food and try to stick with plain meats now, with rice or potatos ...

But occationally we do still have a treat, usually its a friday for a takeaway, and midweek we’ll have something from the freezer. Ive got a thing for cornbeef bakes from M&S;, i dread to think whats in them (actaully we joke and call them ‘corndog bakes’. But we dont eat nearly as much processed for as we used to these days.

I have seen various TV programs which has shown the viewer what goes into certain products and most of it is pretty awful

I’ve noticed the same thing. There was one on about Canned Tuna, and I refused to watch it because its one of the fish I like to eat. But since I know there might be a debate to it I don’t eat it anymore :(.

I’m definitely concerned about perservatives in my food though. Even if I eat them I still think, hmm...I wonder if this is real flavouring or fake? You never know these days. Or if they added a bit of colouring to make it look nicer. I wish the stores would just say - healthy with no colouring or nothing at all! Why do they have to compete with who can make it taste better with copuous amounts of sugar instead of just having it all naturally flavoured. The population will soon follow as their taste buds adjust. smile

I have noticed since I don’t have any salt in my food anymore, If i have a take out I can immediately taste how much salt is in it! Its shocking! No wonder I get so thursty!

If I had the money for organic food, I wouldn’t get anything else. Processed food seems to me more disgusting day by day.

I am justs like that if a brand has even the slightest flaw in it’s reputation of quality and I feel sick as soon as it’s in my mouth.

I think this contributes to why food scares get so much media attention because it is so easy to make people feel disgusted by their foods.

Not preparing home grow food (not that I have ever tried)or not buying the bulk of ingredients raw and fresh puts people in a bit of a bubble about what actually goes into it I think and fresh clean packaging gives a feel of fresh food.

Wish I could afford all organic or at least all fresh.

You know, this is what frustrates me. The government goes on about how they want their country to be healthy and decrease the rate over overweight children etc. How on earth are they suppose to get it done if unhealthy food like McDonalds, KFC ect is so much cheaper than actually buying fresh food? And also...(my green side coming out here) Wouldn’t they save so much energy if the fast food placed just didnt exist?

It almost feels like they put so much extra flavouring into food that they want the public to become ‘addicted’ to it in some sense.

To be honest, I blame the government to a certain extent for the overweight community. Because if they wanted to, they could just bring out a law that says - no more deep fried food! No more high salt in fries! And fix it! Its so easy if you think about - and they’ll save money to use it in other areas that might be needed too.

They wouldn’t have the guts! There would be uproar about human right . They could do what they did with the smoking ban, I don’t imagine it would be too appealing to eat a big mac in the rain LOL. Its true they can change the laws but they have to be very delicate about the situation I suppose. To many busy bodies saying we have the right to stuff ourselves silly with additives and growth hormones at the burden of the NHS.
