I have my 1st job interview next monday at my local surgery for a reception job. Its been many many years since i have had one of these, and even then they were for crap jobs (LOL).

Has anyone got any winning quotes or tips or hints or anything for me?. if you have feel free to post them up here! Ta!X

Well, I haven’t got much experience in this Cat. But Goodluck! And I know one thing I’ve heard is to keep eye contact, have positive body language and be enthusiastic wink. Maybe read up about the position again (what they want) and make sure you mention each of the things they are looking for. As far as I know, that should work smile.

Good luck!xx

Hey Cat

For larger companies, I would suggest finding out as much about them as possible - go to their website and learn about them; what they do, their successes, their culture.

That being said, you probably won’t have much luck if it’s just a local surgery. However, you can still do some research - are they involved in the community? If you find out they are, mention it in the interview; perhaps that’s one of the reasons why you want to work for them.

Companies (large and small) love it when you have shown some initiative and have made the extra effort to learn more about them.

Besides this, just the usual advice; be professional, make eye contact, sit up straight, firm handshakes, confidence and ask a few questions!

Good luck; let us know how you get on smile

Martin has good advice here, I would say ask plenty of questions seems as interested in them as possible, speak about not what you want to gain from them but what thay can gain from employing you.

and good luck you deserve it grin

How about being willing to undergo training?  And perhaps researching NHS issues/info?  And GOOD LUCK!

A bit late to help Cat but my top tip would be: go to more than one interview. A week before I had the interview for my current job I applied for another job (in a Lush shop, which I thought would be cool because it smells nice). I had a rubbish interview for the Lush job but knew it. I came out of the interview thinking ‘I should have said that’ or ‘This answer would have been better’. A week later, I had the interview for the job i have and, even though it was a completely different job (IT as opposed to cosmetic retail) a lot of the same questions came up and I was able to give really good answers.

So, my tip would be even if you don’t want the job you should always go for an interview somewhere else first.

Did you get the job in the end Cat?

your right there i have to agree.

i actually had alot of the answers pre prepaired in my head (as my sister does the same job so she gave me a few things to say), most of the questions i had covered but there were a few that were difficult to answer so its something to remember. Im now about to start a medical secreatary course in the college but when a similar job comes up again i have a better idea as to what to expect in the interview(it was quite full on!!).

I didnt get the job, but i wouldnt have wanted it anyway in the end, they advertised one perminant and one temp position, i applied for the perm position, they told me at the interview both were temp which was a bit naughty!

I have had that happen to me before cat, have started taking the advert in my notes as 1 it makes me look more organized and prepared and secondly I have evidence i’m not just making things up.

Good advice about the attend other interview mookie, my tutor at uni gave the same advice, at the moment I’m lucky to get one real interview a months so I practice with my bf or friend if anything.
