What do you think of this latest idea to charge shoppers for carrier bags? The plan is to charge up to 15 pence for each bag. This is supposidly to cut down on the amount of plastic carrier bags we use and encourage us to buy resuable bags. Plastic bags that end up in landfill sites can take up too 1000 years to decompose.
Plus of course they look so unsightly. How many times have you been driving along and seen piles of rubbish at the roadside, much of it containing plastic carrier bags?
I personally don’t mind paying this charge if it helps to reduce the number of plastic carrier bags. Apart from the fact that they look so horrible littering the countryside, there is also the effect they can have on wildlife.
I have a number of very strong reusable cloth shopping bags I got from the CO-OP. They cost 75p a bag, but last for ages. I also have a few strong ones from Tescos.
I think this charge is a good idea. Anything that helps to reduce the amount of plastic carrier bags has got to be a good thing. What do you think? Would you mind paying this charge?
