I swear I am like a wild animal; earlier I was preparing spaghetti bolognase and drooling over the raw mince meat.

I am also crazy for chocolate at this time of the month, I love chocolate any time tbh but during my period I find myself having intense cravings and end up buying the larger bars and snarling my poor bf when he asks for a bit LOL  it dose seem to give me a mini high more than eating it at any other time.

Dose anyone else have bizarre or intense craving during their period? Do you find certain foods actually make you feel better?

I definitely crave if not during my period but in the week beforehand. Some months I can’t eat enough sugary foods - like marshmalows and I don’t mean just a few I can eat a whole pack in a very short time. Not even really tasting it I’m shovelling it in so fast which is not the normal way I eat btw LOL!  LOL

Another month it might be salty foods - while I’m a big eater of chips(crisps) normally, its much more during this time. I could lick the salt shaker to be honest. And I’ll eat things like pickles (branston pickles etc) and gherkins. Vinegar is a huge thing and so is vegemite, promite and cheese… just can’t eat enough of it. And sometimes I just simply can’t eat enough - I’m constantly hungry, which is weird because I don’t normally feel hungry and have to have reminders to eat.

So its good to hear Kez that you have cravings too… raw meat is not one of mine but I do remember a girlfriend craving it so much when she was pregnant she ate and then confided in us she thought she was possessed LOL.

Cravings have a lot to do with what the body needs IMHO. Red meat I imagine would be iron? Don’t know why I’d be wanting sugar or salt and vinagar though. confused

I think I’m pretty good during that time of month. Although lately I have become a bit snappy - but I think that was combined with being stressed from university.

But I do get cravings a lot. i don’t know if its hormone based or not. I’ll be all fine and then its like suddenly - i’m on the hunt for something! definately like someone possessed by the craving bug! LOL

possessed LOL bless her my aunt is the same

Yes I have always thought it was to do with loss of iron as my periods are quite heavy.

I hear sugar craving is the body’s way of saying you need more energy also to crave sugar is just an artificial form really, salt well I ma a bit clueless, perhaps sodium is needed for brain function but most modern diets are saturated in more sodium than we need anyway.

Flavoring can be very deceiving sometimes, a pack of beef crisps can satisfy a meat craving for me (cooked meat this time) LOL

I wish they had some type of pill that’ll take cravings away LOL .

Goodness, all these things us women have to go through - men seem to have it pretty easy no? LOL

Ah… well that makes sense because I have so little energy for about a week beforehand its not funny. Just get tired, tired, tired… want to sleep - feel like a giant slug LOL all bloated and full of fluid. Very unattractive.

Flutterby got me thinking… I remember taking evening primrose oil for PMT years ago, I wonder if anyone is taking it now and knows if it helps with bloating, food cravings etc?
