I think we need a few more people to express a firm interest (and commitment) to suggesting (and then reading!) the books. Once that happens, I think we can give it a try.

Count me in as expressing a firm interest (and commitment) to a suggestion (and then reading!) some books.

Maybe we could start with some classics that we were all supposed to read in school, but never did?

I am, yes. Just the one.

However I’m finding it a bit inactive at the moment. It’s an invite-only forum, you can’t just go and join up. And I feel we’re not getting any new members at all. A few people have left and it’s just a bit dead really.

Thought I’d come and see how this forum is. wink

I used to be part of a rock club forum, which was good while it lasted, but then it imploded. I then became a member of a friend’s forum, and that was great too, but then that imploded too.

Meanwhile, I’ve attempted to start up 3 forums which all failed to bring in new people, and I’ve recently started a new one that’s trying to challenge ‘common sense’ views, but decided I needed something for me, where I didn’t need to be responsible or obligted and ended up here grin...hopefully I won’t bring this place the same fate…

The idea of challenging common sense views is to explore other perspectives. I think a lot of things peole assume are common sense are just things that people ‘know’ without really thinking about where that knowing comes from.

It’s also challenging western beliefs that the way we live is ‘normal’ and somehow ‘superior’ to other cultures, and also opening the eyes of people who are unaware of other approaches to life.

There’s also some politial interest in there too, as sometimes it’s interesting to discuss alternative motivations for political decisions and agendas.

I hope this helps

Ah ha so really we are not talking common sense ie .. dont walk on thin ice its dangerous..thats a fact and common sense
but commonly held views.. ie people still think all the mummies in Eygpt were found in the Pyramids in fact not one of them was..

As for how we live I think that each of us decides what is normal for us and to our surroundings, in the western world its a much more western way but I agree that wont necessarily work in Equador or Mongolia..no problem with that..

I would like to challange the ‘they’ view.. everytime Im in England I hear people tut about things they dont agree with and say ‘ they should do something about that/them /it’
Who are ‘they’ where are they and why aren’t ‘we’ doing whatever it is ??

I’m a member of a military spouse forum - amilitaryromance.com - I’m a moderator there. I know a lot of the ladies in the forum because I use to live in the VA area.

I’m new here, but I am going to try to become more active :D
