Do you collect anything that you would rescue in a fire?, anything in your house which makes your home complete??.

Ive always loved bears, not any old type though, but the old style bears that have real character to their faces with moveable limbs etc, most of mine are replicas of the expensive type like the german steiff brears, i do have one though,he even has a growler inside him.
I havent bought anymore for a good few years, simply because we dont have the space, but i would if i could. I love looking at their little faces in the corner of my bedroom, ive even bought them a new chair for them all to sit on!. Im sure they all come alive when we’re not home in a ‘Toy story’ kinda way!!

these are my main men - as pictured below. the little bear in the t-shirt was one i saved from a lost and found draw at my ballet class when i was a kid, i took him home and mended his feet and he’s been with me ever since.

aw… how cute. I have my knitted bears on a chair in our bedroom. They’re special. I collect elephants as well. It’s interesting as I was reading recently that animals we collect and like are a sort of guide - like a spirit. The particular traits of the animals themselves are there to help us in those sorts of areas. I haven’t read enough to understand it but it sounded nice. So perhaps your animal totem spirit is the bear.

I guess in a fire I’d be grabbing the computers.... I’m pretty boring really LOL.

Oh yeh in a fire id be chucking my bears out the window to save them and gathering up the cats!

Apart from my dogs who I dont really think of as possesions I suppose there are a few things I would love to save, baby photos of my kids, an old kitchen chair and a 1970’s papermate pen.
the chair was my granddads, it was the only chair narrow enough to fit in the kitchen between the end of the worktop and the fridge. He would sit there supping tea from his saucer which annoyed my nan something rotten and he would watch her cook.
I can remember her scolding him for his bad manners and him hugging her and telling her she was a good woman and how nice she smelled.
I remember thinking how nice it was that they were so in love even though they were old. I was only 11 when he died but I asked for the chair when my nan went into sheltered housing because just looking at it makes me feel warm and loved.

The pen was a gift my mum bought from us kids to our father one christmas.
I was only about 7 at the time and the oly one who could write so shortly afterwards when it went missing my dad said I must have lost it.
Oh my dad could sulk and hold a grudge and every time he wanted a pen he would harp on about me ‘loosing’ his pen.
Well time came for the sofa to be thrown out and dad cut the liner at the bottom to see if there were any coins lost down there and of course out fell his pen!
He said sorry, but years later when he died his second wife gave me the pen, she said I needed to have it because every time he used that pen he told her how he had blamed me for loosing it an how bad he felt for that.
I dont use it but I know when I hold it he had held it and thought of me.

I actually had a dream about this a few nights ago, mums house had been demolished and I asked he if she saved the photos. I felt devastated (in the dream) when she said no!

The in real life LOL when I used to work at a photo processing unit we had the equipment to mass scan allot of photos so I too ours in them and made a digital copy of all the old stuff, this automatically recognized the photo edges too (more or less) so we how have a digital copy of nearly everything both at mine and hers so if the worst come to the worst it’s not the original but at least it’s something....

I can’t think of anything else thats really that important to me, I don’t like to throw away books or key fashion pieces from seasons gone by so maybe those.

I think OH would try to save his portable hard drive LOL

WOW Cat the london toy museum. That is special! Understandably not just any old bear would do if you are akin to the bear family. Makes sense to me.

Here’s some links about bear totems…

This one lists most animals:

Check out the butterfly - made me think of Flutterby.  smile

There are loads of sites covering totem’s etc. It’s very interesting.

If we are not talking sentiment, I’d grab my laptop!

If we are talking sentiment, I’d grab my wedding photo album.

Anything else, and I’d probably burn to a crisp trying to get everything together!

For me it would be pictures. We had a fire years ago and lost all our baby pictures. Out of all the stuff I’d accumulated through the years this is the only thing I really miss.

I agree losing picture which can’t be retaken is never good, and when they are as precious as the children when they are newborn and so on, it is simply not good.  Mind you I wouldn’t mind losing all the really horrid photos of me, though.

excaim  There’s just so many things I’d try to save.

I’ve written diaries since I was @ school… whether it’s in a week-to-view with bullettpoints of what I am to do / what I have done, or indepth stories about how I’ve found ‘the one...’ I will then scroll 10 pages on to go on about another bloke I have met.  My diaries make me cringe but give me a glow inside nothing else ever could.  I pick them up and say to myself, ‘MYGOSH I REMEMBER THAT,’ and I get the same feeling I felt that day just by reading or looking @ a photo I stuck in there.

My other would be my tiny silk pillow.  My nan sewed and knitted it together for me with lots of ribbon and silk… it has a duck face in the middle. Ever since I could remember I have LOVED silked… I’m 19 and still cutting labels out my clothes, sewing them together and hiding them under my pillow just as a comfort thing.  The wierd thing is too - I have never found anyone else with the same fettish (if that’s what you want to call it) other than my current boyfriend… I can’t believe I’m telling you all this!  We will fight over who gets “good silk” from a piece of clothing or something. We joke around when arguing and say ‘Oh shut up now will you, have your silk...’ LOL… so my lovely pillow is another.

And not forgetting my staffordshire bull terrior, Ellie… family, etc… the usual suspects whilst the house burns to the ground!

I love the silk pillow thing.  Funnily enough, like silky labels is very understandable, and of all the quirks to have, rather cute.

There are some days where I will be sitting on my couch or lying in bed and I’ll glance around and take stock of my possessions and make a list of what I would try to grab in the event of a disaster. I think I’ve watched too many movies :p

Obviously I would grab my cat, but like Cassandra said, I don’t really consider her a possession. I would try to get my laptop, but only because ALL of my photos are stored on here. Or if I couldn’t grab that, it would be my boyfriend’s external HD, as the pictures are stored on there too. If I was able to grab one more thing, it would be necklace my mom bought for me when she was on her trip to British Columbia. It’s not expensive or anything, but it’s sentimental value is huge.

I have to count myself lucky though...I have never been exposed to any type of disaster up to this point in my life.
