I remember picking up glamorous magazines in my mid teens and dreaming of how cool it would be to be say 23, it felt the cutting edge fashions was aimed at glamorousness young women in their early mid 20’s and I just couldn’t wait.

Now everything seems to end once you hit 20, everything thats in style should defiantly not be worn my anyone my age (25) or at least according to this MSN article.

Some of the advice given “why not stick to a nice A line skirt that can be worn comfortably to work too” and “ don’t buy statement t-shirts stick to comfortable multi colored t-shirts that go with anything” and worst of all “cut back on the cleavage” oh come on 20 something is still sexy rigth!!! and for that matter so is 30+.

I think you can look good in current fashions however old you are but there are still some age appropriate ways to wear certain items. Just latly it seems all the really hot styles this season seem to have been more aimed at 15 years olds just lately, I cant say I am particularly excited about anything I find in more sophisticated high street shops - the ones I used to dream of shopping in when I was 15. The trends are ok, good quality still just seem to lack the fashion appeal of what is coming out for the teens.

So is the age of fashion getting younger, or is it me - am I just getting old?

Wait don’t answer that! LOL

My rule is to wear what I like within reason.
I mean I see fashion coming round for its second outing now and I think OMG did I really walk around like that?
So this time round instead of going for the whole outfit I choose one item maybe a top or something to give my outfit a modern touch without looking like mutton dressed as lamb.
(an old expression shows my age!)

I think you’re right Kez - the older I’m getting the more it seems as though ‘high’ fashion is aimed at the younger and younger. When I was in my twenties it did seem it was my age that was being aimed at and younger and older people were left with basics… hardly a thing to choose from, it was the older look or the kiddie look which someone in their 30’s and 40’s naturally isn’t going to be happy wearing.

And like you Cassandra I’m seeing a turn around in fashions being repeated. It’s quite funny seeing some of the things I used to wear being back on the racks. LOL

I just wear what I want now - I’m pretty conservative, more a jeans and shirt kinda girl but love to put on a dress and really spruce everything up at times… just wish I could find a dress that now doesn’t leave me looking like a blob.  rolleyes

I don’t have any fashion problems. I wear jeans and tops when I’m out, and comfy leggings indoors. I don’t even OWN skirt. I have two sweater dresses somewhere I think but I never wear them.

My daughter looks on New Look and I must confess I do like some of the longer t shirts they have. I noticed they’ve brought back batwing tops!!! Sheesh I used to have loads of those in the 80’s which I wore with my skinny jeans and pixie boots. smile

It’s funny how many fashions keep reappearing, some I welcome others not . . .

But some people looked so cool in them, remember the Duchess of York collecting her kids from school wearing and frightful version? Ha ha!!  I suppose we’ve all had our frocky horrors.

some people will have you looking your age or older before your times i reckon.

My sister in law is 37, she wears what ever she likes, at the moment shes getting right into the whole 80’s revivial look (take a look in NEXT to see what i mean at the moment), and she looks great on a night out, admitidly she can carry the look off effortlessly being as shes about 5’8 and extreamly slim, but shes a good example.

Safari suits?  Do you remember having to check all those pockets for tissues before sending them to the cleaners or throwing them in the washing machine???

Mind you, they were fun to wear!

I’m not sure about the USA but pastel floral colours and denim is back in this season… it’s funny I was THIS close to giving up my £80 denim vintage dress from the TOPSHOP botique to Oxfam then along came this Summer’s stock and I thought twice.

I think we’ve all learnt as women, not to throw ANY clothes out till we perhaps have children of our own and have bigger fish to fry… other than worrying about what trends are going to reappear next season, ha ha.

I am all for accessorising clothing to give each piece a different look. For example wide belts, or narrow belts depending on the outfit. Try layering too a nice cami under a blouse it is so “in”. A cami under a smart jacket looks good. Change the colour of the cami.  Take a good look at what you already have in your wardrobe and mix and match.. I have a classic black pants suit, also a grey pants suit, so I bought a blouse with both those colours. The blouse is small patterned royal blue with beige, black and grey and a little coffee colour. It goes with both suits. I bought a nice cheap necklace in the shape of a red flower on a silver chain choker length, it goes well with Black, and equally as well with white.
We have just gone through a hot summer and torquoise/aqua colours were popular here in Australia, they look great with white for summer. Flattering sandals in colours are lovely and can be bought at a reasonable price so maybe get a couple of pairs.

Anyway, do not forget your lippy, to have lipstick on really brightens up any outfit, and brightens up your face..

Cheers

Right on, Glamourjess!! I remember asking my mum why didn’t she keep her floral dresses for me. Saw them on ol’ photos and they were real vintage dresses. Now, if I don’t really like a certain trend, I make an effort to get a piece of the trend for keepsakes. That’s when you gotta figure where to keep your trend keepsake pieces.

I don’t really follow the trend.
As long as I know that my style is still “in” (just like skinny jeans) I don’t let go of it.
If I am still happy, contented and pretty with my style then I don’t change.
