Last weekend I started knitting. I haven’t knitted for well over ten years, since I was at school, and I’ve decided to get back into it.

I’ve been making teeny tiny bobble hats for smoothie bottles. Does that sound crazy? I think this is only in the UK: every year the Innocent Smoothie people ask for knitters to send them little hats, which they put on the bottles in Winter, then 50p from every bottle sold goes to Age Concern and Help the Aged (more info). I’ve been seeing these in the shops for the past few years and thinking every year ‘I must do that, those look so cute’, and this year I’ve finally got myself in gear to do it.

I can’t get over how easy knitting is. After taking an embarrassingly long time to remember how to cast on, I found it was really really easy (more so than I remembered) so once I’ve sent in my hats (deadline is next week), I think I might tackle something a little more adventurous.

Any other knitters on here?

Oh yes - once I’ve finished attaching all the bobbles I WILL post some pics, because if I do say so myself, these hats are damn cute.

Yes mookie I used to knit quite a lot. Read the thread I started up here about my ermmm, “creation”. LOL  http://www.femaleforum.com/forums/viewthread/158/

I think it’s great what you are doing, especially as it is for charity. Your right, knitting is easy really isn’t it? I keep meaning to pick it up and start again and this time I think I will. I want to knit myself a nice long comfy cardy, but I need an easy pattern. I don’t do complicated at my age. LOL

I do a lot of crochet. Taught myself after I was diagnosed with cancer and it was the only thing that kept my mind off of the crushing blackness of it all. Knitting is more difficult for me, seems more like drugery, but I’m currently trying to teach myself as there are so many lovely patterns out there I’d like to try.
