I often read about transferable skills and making the most of them on my CV and today in an interview I was put in a position were I had to think fast what i can bring to a technical job from a non technical education background.

I also think this is a good point even if you haven’t worked for a time especially for mums returning to work like skills in time management and even conflict resolution think 2 two years olds in an argument; then there is volunteering which is not to be underestimated eithr.

Do you think what you gain from one employment can be transfered to another would you expect to have to start from the very bottom in a career change? Have you ever been given an opportunity because of success in a role completely different to what you applied for what skills did you take with you how did you feel you used them?

Oh i hate those questions in an interview, i cant think quick enough, or simply come out with some garbled rubbish!.

I think there are probably quite a few people who do have transferable skills, those for example who work for doctors have to deal with confientiality could easily take that with them and work in a legal environment… depends what you have done really, personally with the type of work i have done i cant think of anything, but alot of people can

I worked for my OH when he had a business in England I used the knowledge I had to take exams in business in Dutch, the theory was the same just the langauge was different but that helped me get an in at a big supermarket that were starting a new concept in thier stores..
There I learned about bakery skills and supermarket ordering systems and got my HACCP diploma… I took that to the bakery I managed..
After they went bust I worked as a cleaner and got a Hygyne and safe practice diploma..
Im now a home help, my MIL has Alzhiemers my OH has mild OCD I have a ADHD child and again the HACCP and the cleaning diploma helped to pave the way..
