I’ve been wondering for awhile about this fashion statement....what is the point of these teens and grown men wandering around with their pants around their knees, and their underwear showing, you see them walking with kinda of a shuffling swagger trying to hold these pants on,I said to my husband the other day after seeing a group of teens go by all shuffling along, those kids by the time they are in there 30’s are all going to need hip replacements.

Well I guess some of the kids just do it nowadays as it’s the fashion. I remember hearing (not sure if this is true) that it originated in gang culture as a shout to other gang members that were in prison. When your belt is taken away from you when in jail, your jeans/trousers will fall loose - and this is what that was supposed to represent.

The point I don’t know perhaps to give a giggle to those walking behind them, to show off their designer undies who can say.

I know what you mean Kamille. I’ve seen this too and I think they look ridiculous. They have jeans on that look about 10 sizes too big that are nearly round their ankles, with their manky boxers on show for everyone to see.  sick  Is this look supposed to be “cool” or something?

I have to admit, when I first saw the title of this discussion thread, I thought of this:

I don’t understand that fashion either. I one time yanked on this kids pants - they came right off! I told him next time to prevent that get a belt. He was a friend of mine so it didn’t matter too much.... I think it makes you look immature.

I had no idea what you were referring to until I read the replies lol.  But it’s style, and it really is not that cool.  Kinda repulsive.  I wish people will be more classy.  Back in the day, poor kids tried to dress like the rich kids.  Now, the rich kids are trying to dress like the poor kids.  $200 baggy hoody that looks dirty.  Now sure why.  What a world we live in.
