I was listening to the news covarage (if you can call it news) of the John Terry affair this morning and wondering who does this ‘ news’ benefit?
Why is someones indiscrections newsworthy??
Are we so busy putting these people such as Mr Terry and Tiger Woods on pedestals that we cannot cope when they turn out to be human? ..

They make mistakes but with the media reporting on every misstep they take what chance does any of them have to repair the damage?

If it were you seeing your OH’s name all over the paper would you feel more pressure to ‘ make a statement’ call him an SOB ..divorce him??
Would you feel more able to cope with the infidelity if you could work it out privately??

I just wonder how much damage is done by this reporting and who it is supposed to benefit, after all what do we gain by knowing who Tiger woods slept with or what John Terry did in bed??
Am I the only one who sees this as nothing more than garden fence gossip?

I think the concept of ‘freedom of speech’ benefits. I agree that this kind of trash should be considered irrelevant and doesn’t really benefit anyone - but it’s the principle.

If a footballer can put a gag on the media, why can’t a company with shady business practices or a corrupt politician do the same?

I think it boils down to money, magazines, newspapers, gossips mags all benefit, just look what some of these media and paparazzi will pay for a picture of one of these people, not only does sex sell, so does gossip, and when the “stars” are running a little short on cash they will sell wedding/baby photos for crazy amounts of money.

This reminds me of Cheryl Cole last year when she found her husband had cheated on her and seemed to face massive media pressure to divorce him which of course she didn’t and now the tabloids seems to follow every move and blow every detail out of proportion. I cant thing who that benefited at all.

I agree that it’s just gossip when you hear about certain peoples’ indiscretions. Like actors, athletes, whatever.

I am more than glad to know about the indiscretions of politicians, policemen, judges, school teachers, etc. I think those people should be watched and talked about, for obvious reasons.

But really anyone who chooses to be a public figure is putting themselves in a position for people to talk about them, whether those people are saying nice things or not. So on the whole, I don’t feel too badly for them.
