I was appalled today. one of 3 couples who looked around our house in view to renting it had a baby and a young boy, the boy must have been about3years old.

Durring their time in the house the boy went through most of our kitchen cupboards even although the mother said not to a few times, he picked up a handful of gravel and threw it at our conservatory windows and spent the rest of the time trying to steel change out of a pot of money we have on the stairs(its not much, just loose pocket change), the mother told him not to 3 times and he carried on.

In view to this behavour, my thinking is, if this is how the child behaves in the presence of strangers, goodness knows how it behaves and what it does in the comfort of its home. We promtly told the agents that if they are interested we would decline.

Maybe its my intolerance with children (&christ;did i feel thankful i didnt have any today!!), but frankly i was appalled by the child and even more appalled that the parents had no control over it!.

I dont blame you for telling the agents No thanks.. I am often gobsmacked at the way people let thier kids behave in public..
I might have told this before but I used to have a neighbour whos daughter would tease my dogs pulling thier tail or ears to the point that they would yelp..Her mother wouldnt tell her off or stop her.
Now if a dog bites back its gonna get nasty so I waited until she came round and as she pulled the dogs tail I leaned across and yanked her hair hard. The kid screamed and said ‘ that hurt’ I looked all innocent and said ‘ oh sorry I thought you liked it after all you keep doing it to Oscar’

She never laid another finger on my dogs.. But her mother still never said a word!
Supermarkets are ther worst kids eating from the pick and mix, climbing on shelving, hanging out of trolleys, whizzing the card displays round, playing on escalators its mental..

my sentiments exactly!, i get so angry if an animal is put down simply because a kid had been doing that to it!

Yes so do I. I remember a case a few years back, where an Alsation was put to sleep after biting some kids. When the vet did a postmorten on the dog, he found that a pencil had been shoved down it’s ear!! Can you imagine the pain that poor dog must have been in?

I’m in complete agreement with you Cat. I would have done exactly the same thing. I also agree about supermarkets. Why do some parents let their kids sit in the trolleys? For crying out loud other people have to put their food in there. God knows what the kid has got on their shoes.  mad  mad

And well done Cassandra, that’s brilliant!! Serves the brat kid right. Some people might consider that harsh. Well I don’t. It taught the horrible little brat a lesson it wouldn’t forget. Good on ya!

That is all part of being a 3 year old, they are into absolutely everything, you can’t take your eyes off them for a minute.I imagine he is tired of Mom constantly saying stop that, get out of there, and its going in one ear and out the other....
Like good pet owners it’s their responsibility and it’s not the pets fault, as in this case, the parents should have got a babysitter for the little tornado.....

ah, im afriad i just dont agree there, 3 years olds are into everything, but they are also of an age to start knowing right from wrong, that when mum says “no”, it means no, to be honest im glad they brought the kid along because if they had rented our house in a years time or so i can imagine the walls full of crayon and the glass scratched by slate chippings from the garden.
Gosh, if i was naughty as a child my dad would give me a smack on the bum, i never did it again!.

Aaahhhhh - I can’t believe I’ve never even thought of this. One more thing to worry about at the supermarket as a borderline germaphobe, I guess. Gross.

Ah, lovely 3 years olds, loud creatures usually oozing some form off goo, I’m fairly tolerant when it comes to the behavior of young children I’m not so tolerant of the parents ignorance.

Sounds like you had a lucky escape cat; im sure the kiddy could learn to behave but not so sure about changing the parents attitudes. Definitely a good thing they brougth their little darling along too that way you get to see the whole picture.

Did they show any interest in your house in the end?

no they didnt thankgod, a different couple did, but now it seems...3 weeks on, they cant get enough ID together, bankstatements etc for the agents credit checks, so it looks as if the agent is going to have to remarket it on the rental front once again
