Quick Fixes for a Bad Hair Day

bad hair dayAny woman who claims to have never had a bad hair day is either a freak of nature or a very good liar! No matter how great your cut or how well you take care of your hair, there are some days when it just doesn’t want to cooperate. Even if you only have a few extra minutes to spare, there are a few things that you can do to at least make your hair presentable before you walk out the door.

By following these tips, you can stop hiding under a hat and send your bad hair day back where it came from.

The leading cause of bad hair days has been shown to be excessive use of overly hot hair dryers. The hot, forced air can become trapped inside the strands of your hair, making small gas bubbles. These can cause breakage, frizz, and a host of other bad hair day issues. If you think your bad hair day is making you feel terrible, imagine how your hair feels… gassy, bloated, and broken, without any relief in sight. Let your hair dry naturally as often as possible and you’ll see a huge reduction in bad hair days.

Dealing with Dry Hair

Dry hair is a common problem, especially in the summer months when hair is washed more often, exposed to the sun, and drenched in chlorinated pools. Keeping hair well conditioned after every washing and using a deep conditioner every few days can prevent this from happening. If you are faced with dry, split ends, roll your hair into a bun to hide the problem until it can be dealt with.

Fighting The Frizzies

No matter your hair type, curly, wavy or straight, frizz can cause a bad hair day, any time of year. Usually, this is caused by a lack of moisture and the resulting breakage. A diffuser can help to keep hair from drying out and breaking, or even better, let your hair air-dry. Keeping hair well conditioned is a must. For a quick fix, use a little gel on the tips and a curling iron to smooth out the curls.

Getting Things Straight

Taking your hair from wavy to straight can be a time consuming chore some days. If blowing out your hair is resulting in a huge, frizzy mess, simply wet your hair and start over, using a frizz-reducing product to tame the damage already done by the hair dryer. Once your hair is completely dry, finish straightening it with a flat iron for more effective results.

Overwhelmed with Oily Hair

Frequent washing is the best way to combat oily hair, as that overly shiny look is the result of oil that builds up over time. If you are running late and just don’t have the time to wash your hair to get rid of the oil, a small amount of baby powder or dry shampoo can work wonders. It will soak up the oil and have your hair smelling fresh for the day.

Bring Life Back to Limp Hair

Flat limp hair is usually the result of buildup of shampoo, conditioner, or styling products. The best answer to reviving a limp head of hair is to wash frequently and make sure that everything is rinsed out thoroughly. A little bit of volumising spray at the roots and wearing your glasses or sunglasses on your head until it dries fully can give limp hair a boost if you’re in a real jam.

School Unruly Curls

Curly hair can be both a blessing and a curse. When curls are looking their best, the compliments will fly and you will be the envy of every woman on the block. However, when those curls turn on you, you are in serious trouble. A light mousse or silicone styling product can sometimes do the trick, otherwise try a headband or pull the front back with a pretty barrette.

Out From Under the Hat

In the winter, wearing a hat can be a necessity on those overly chilly days, and we all know that one of two things will happen when you take off that hat. You will be a victim of the static monster or hat hair will be in full effect. If you are having a hair-raising time with static, be sure that you have a dryer sheet in your handbag. A simple swipe over the head will kill the static. For hat hair, use wet fingers to reactivate your styling product and refresh your ‘do.
